Diagnostic Key for the Identification of Malaria Parasites in Giemsa stained Blood Films

Note: For correct diagnosis a freshly prepared and Giemsa stained blood film is needed. If you find various stages of parasites you should use the key for each parasite stage found. Please remember: often you can find mixed infections!

How to work with the Key to the Diagnostic Decision Tree:

1. Chose a plasmodium from the list below

2. Open the decision tree

3. Follow the diagnostic decision tree

4. When you come to the end, You can open the "solution" and start the diagnostic decision game again

Compare the solution of the choosen plasmodium with the solution you have diagnosed by the decision tree!
